my mother has never really spoke about her mums life, and i do not know what my great grandparents were called.
my mum is 60 odd and even just hours after grans death my mum said to me 'she was 90 a long life but not a nice one' only in her last few years did she find true happiness.
life was rough in the 'city'
all gone now but at its height it had over 700 people crammed into the size of a supermarket carpark.

Sorry to hear of your loss Darrell. I think folk were happier in those days with nowt than they are now with everything.
thanks brian
i would like to think life was better back then but my gran used to hide in the cellar from the rentman! nowadays people just ignore the post!
but your right today people want everthing right now, they want a home but dont want to build one.
i am not ashamed to say im sat on a very old sofa, and to be honest all my furniture is from family.
ashamed? NO
Modern technology is good but when I started birding in the early 60s all I had was a pair of 10x50s, an observers book of birds and a note book. A field trip to the coast was a special occasion and a memory you never forget, happy days.
P.S. I think everybodys grandmother hid in the cellar head from the rent man, mine did.
not just my family then!
anyway just had an invite to look around the interior of scout hall...........if you dont ask you dont get!!!
Good do, hope you can post some photos.
My condolences as well Darrell.
I agree, that that generation didn`t have much, but what they did have, they made the most of it.
I know, i was brought up by my grandparents and it`s made me what i am today.
thanks dean
